Homemade Rockets

When I first got called to be a den mom let's just say I was less than excited. I have changed my tune now and I love spending time with these boys. Today we made homemade rockets. You get film canisters and then tape a bamboo stick to the side of it with the lid facing upside down. Next place a 1/4 of an alka seltzer tablet in the canister and then fill it about 1/2 full of water. Shake it and then place it in your rocket launcher which is basically a straw taped to an object. In about 20 seconds it blows about 10 feet. Yes Coby comes with me about every week since he can't wait to be a scout.

We had a paper airplane race and a balloon race planned and they had so much fun shooting the rockets off that we didn't even get to the other stuff.

We made airplane treats at the end with smarties, gum, elastic, and 2 lifesavers. What a fun day! I love it when I come home from scouts and know that they had a blast and so did I. Next week........pinhole planetariums. And can I just say......I really must be a tom boy because I love doing boy things.

I so wish you were Aidan's Cub Scout leader -- looks like fun!
